Famous People from Mardan

Mardan is the 2nd largest city of KPK province. it is known for the agricultural industries and all its archeological sites containing abundant of history. Apart from these famous historical places, this city is also known for the sincerity of its people. The people living here have made their name with their hard work and devotion to their homeland. Some of the famous people are discussed over here:

Sartaj Aziz

Sartaj Aziz was born on 7th February 1929 in Mardan during British rule. Sartaj Aziz served Pakistan as an economist, a member of the Federal Cabinet, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission of Pakistan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a member of the Federal Senate and an Advisor for the National Security Council. He also remained the Minister of Finance from August 1990 to June 1993.

He was the only member of cabinet who opposed the response against the Indian nuclear test. He, along with politics, was heavily involved in literary work. He worked as the Vice Chancellor of Beacon House University in 2004 and remained there up till 2013. Moreover, he wrote his own book which was named as “Between Dreams and Realities”, and published it in 2009.

Ahmed Khan Bahadur

Ahmed khan Bahadur is a great politician born on 9th July 1967 in district Mardan. He got his early education from government school in Mardan and got the degree of B.A from Government Post Graduate College Mardan. After that he went to Islamabad and shows his interest in LL.B from Muslim Law College.

He worked hard as a politician and played a vital role for the success of Pakistan. Ahmed khan Bahadur belongs to Awami National Party at the present time. Previously, he became a member of KPK assembly, three times whenever the Pakistan general elections were held in 2008, 2013 and 2018. He is also working as a member of provincial assembly (MPA) of KPK since 2013.

Muhammad Yusuf Banuri

Allama Muhammad Yusuf Banuri was born on 7th may 1908 in Mahabat Abad, NWFP British India. His hometown was Mardan. He got his early education from his father and the higher education from Darul-Uloom Deoband. He did Masters in Hadith (Dora-e-Hadith) from Jamia Islamia Talimuddin Dabhel. He was a Pakistani Islamic Scholar and the founder of Jamia Uloom UL Islamia. He wrote many books but was famous for Maarif Ul Sunan Sharah and Sunan Al Tirmidhi.

He worked as Sheikh Ul Hadith at Jamia Islamia Talimuddin Dabhel and also worked as Sheikh Ul Tafseer at Darul Uloom in 1954. He was also selected as Ameer of World Council for the Protection of Prophethood (Almi Majlis Tahaffuz Khtm-e-Nabuwat). Hence, he worked hard for the spread of Islam and his services cannot be for-granted. He died on 17th of October in 1977, Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan and was buried in ancestor’s cemetery.

Ameer Haider Khan Hoti

Ameer Haider Khan Hoti is a Pakistani politician born on 5th Feb 1971 in Mardan. He is the son of Azam Khan Hoti, who was the Federal Minister of KPK. He got his early education from the government school and higher education from Aitchison College. He got his degree of graduation from Edwards College. Then, he started his political career in 1990.

He is a member of Pakistan National Assembly since 2018. This was a 2nd opportunity for him. For the very first time, he availed the same opportunity of being member of National Assembly from June 2013 to May 2018. Previously, he remained a member of the Provincial Assembly of KPK from 2008 to 2013. Currently, he is working as a member of Awami National Party. 

Peer Gohar Ali Shah

Syed Peer Gohar Ali Shah was born on 8th December 1931 in Pirano Daga, Mardan. He was known as Shair-e-Aman (poet of peace). He had a great work in poetry and songwriting and always wrote in Pashto. He contributed to the Independence Movement of Pakistan through his poetry and articles which were written under his pen name Shilmani or Silani

He got his primary education during the British Rule and completed his masters after the independence of Pakistan. Another writer, Aftab Gul Banrr wrote about all his life in the book named as “Gouhariyat”. He wrote much of his work in the presence of Quaid Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Abdul Rub Nishtar. He wrote 8 books on Sufism among which “Taswaf-e-Noorani” got much importance. Along with Sufism and Islamic Writings, he also wrote for Drama and Radio Pakistan. President at that time, Zia Ul Haq gave him the award for Presidential Pride of Performance because of his literary work for Pakistan.

He involved himself in literary activities and delivered his knowledge among others. He remained the chairman of Mardan Adabi Jirga. He also worked for Mardan Art Council which was actually a cultural event. He had an unforgettable work in Abdul Wali Khan University. He died on 4th January 2013 in the same city of his birth.

Muhammad Akbar Khan Hoti

Nawabzada Akbar Khan Hoti was born in the Nawab’s family on 8th February 1956. He is the son of Nawabzada Abdul Ghafur Khan Hoti. His forefathers were the Nawab of Hoti Palace. Because of this reason, Akbar Khan is known as Nawabzada. He remained the Pakistani Police Officer from 2011 to 2013. After that he got a job as Director General of FIA. He worked in FIA from 2014 to 2016. He is a great man who stands by Pakistan against different crimes.

Apart from these great people, there are many other famous personalities who belong to Mardan. Some of them are those people who have met the real creator while serving Pakistan and there are some who are still trying to rank Pakistan in the list of successful countries. These celebrities include the following names:

Azam Khan, Abdul Akbar Khan, Atif Khan, Saleem Safi, Nasin Ur Rehman, Meher Taj Roghani, Zari Sarfaraz, Bilal Shah, Gohar Ali Shah, Salma Shaheen, Mohan Singh, Sardar Ali Takkar, RahimUllah Yusufzai.
