This city is important because of some tourist attractions. Today we are going to discuss some places that offer beautiful and fascinating views.

Takht Bhai

Takht Bhai is an archeological site located in Mardan. It is a site based on Buddhist civilization and located at a distance of 80 km from Peshawar. These monuments are located at an altitude of 150 km from the surface of earth. Takht Bhai contains 4 important regions. It includes Stoop court, monastic chamber, and Temple complex and Tantric medication complex.

These are the places that have been inhabited for years then something happened and everything hid underground. But today, tourists started to visit these places again because of its historical importance. The reason for its fame is only the archeological thrones present in Takht Bhai. The meaning of Takht Bhai is different in Sanskrit and Persian languages. Takht means a crow and Bhai means Upper level, in Sanskrit language. Hence, the meaning of Takht Bhai is a crow flying high in the air. While, in Persian Takht means “Throne” and Bhai means “Water”.

Archaeologists believe that the site was built during the reign of ancient kings. It is said to have been built by a Buddhist ruler. These ruins were discovered in 1836 during the British Era and its regular excavations began in 1852. In 1980, UNESCO declared it as a global heritage. The ruins of the monks' dormitories and seminaries in these ruins seem to have been used for the promotion of knowledge.

Jamal Garhi

Jamal Garhi is located on Katlang Road, 13 km from Mardan District. This is a beautiful ministry, a small town and the central stoop. Its prominence is the 3,000 year old Buddhist relics here. These ruins are known as The Jamal Garhi Kandarat. In Pashto, these ruins are known as Kafiro Koti. 

These ruins were discovered by the most famous archaeologist of the time, Sir Alexander Cunningham, during British rule in 1848. Although it was open to government officials in 1852. When Lieutenant Crominton started digging it in 1871, ancient Buddhist relics were found here, which still are considered the reason for the fame of this place. As soon as all these things were discovered, the British government took action and all this became the adornment of the British Museum and the Indian Museum of Calcutta.

Seri Bahlol

This is a small village situated close to Takht Bhai in Mardan. It is a beautiful site with a number of archeological thrones which attracts tourists. This site is located near Takht Bhai and is at a distance of 70 km from Peshawar. This historical site contains the ruins of Buddhists which were built during the reign of Kushan Khan and are still present in a strong position. Ancient things like statues, coins, utensils and jewelry are usually found here. Since 1980 it has also been included in the list of world cultural heritage of UNESCO.

Mardan Museum

This museum of District Mardan is famous for Gandhara and Buddha art, which was established in 1995 under the supervision of Commissioner, the son of Riaz Noor of Mardan division. Later on, in 2006 a part of land was granted by the Mardan Government which was inaugurated and opened to the public in 2009. When you enter the first hall of the ground floor, you will see a variety of ancient books which were written in different languages. These books were written about the religious teachings of different civilizations during that period. 

If you look at the other side on the same floor, you can see the cultural aspects of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These include heart-wrenching musical instruments through which the people of KPK celebrate festivals. In addition, there are ancient boxes that point to the culture of the old people. Old-fashioned Pakhtun clothing is also adorned here. Moreover, you can see the ancient silver jewelry that was considered an adornment for women. These dresses and jewelry reflect the lifestyle of Pakhtuns. Apart from all this, you will see a lot in this museum that will take you back in history.

Bacha Khan Monuments

Bacha Khan Monument is a memorial located at College Chowk, Mardan. The monument was built by Mr. Haider Khan Hoti, who was a member of the Awami National Party during 2010-11. It was based on representative symbols of Pakhtun culture. This is one of the most beautiful and important places. This is a 60 ft high beautiful monument. It is very popular among local tourists of Pakistan. There lies the central university of Abdul Wali khan University, under this monument.
